Puncture repairs can be a good way to save yourself some money if they are carried out correctly but should never be attempted if a professional tyre fitting expert has not examined the tyre and decided that it can be done safely, without compromising the integrity of the wheel.
Our plug patch repair approach is suitable for every tyre size and will work in the vast majority of cases. If patch repair is not an option, we also offer a range of different new tyres from budget tyres to more premium tyres meaning you won’t have to spend a fortune just to get back on the road.
Only punctures in the central 3/4 of a tyre can usually be treated with a patch repair. The sidewall of a tyre cannot be repaired as the air drill used to prepare the damaged area could weaken the structure of this area. There is also much more flex in this area that could cause a patch repair to detach.
6 mm is the recognised cut off point for the maximum size of punctures that can be patch repaired. Any larger and getting new tyres fitted is the only option. Luckily, a high percentage of punctures tend to be caused by pretty small items such as nails or screws that are smaller than 6 mm but the gouges made by metal debris and other larger sharp objects in the tyres of your vehicle are likely to pose more of an issue.
Only one puncture can be safely repaired in each section of the tyre. Multiple punctures in the same area have the potential to weaken the tyre to an unsafe extent.
You should also note that punctured tyres can only be repaired a maximum of three times, at which point the tyre will need to be replaced with a new one.
For obvious reasons, we will only patch repair tyres that meet the legal requirements for roadworthiness. this means a tread depth of above 1.6mm and no bulging or exposed cords in the sidewall.
